HGV driver CV example

A driver CV should make confirmed licence categories and qualifications easy to find, then describe actual transport work. This fictional example demonstrates where licence details belong; they must never be copied into an unqualified applicant's CV.

Fictional example. Names, employers and details are made up for illustration.

Fictional CV: contact details and profile

Example applicant · Leeds · [your phone] · [your email]. Contact details are placeholders, not a real person's information.

Work experience

HGV Driver — Example Transport Ltd · February 2023 – August 2025

  • Checked delivery paperwork and communicated delays to the transport office.
  • Followed the applicable drivers' hours rules and company procedures.

Skills and training

Fictional applicant's qualifications: Category C licence; Driver CPC; digital tachograph driver card. In a real application confirm your own categories, validity and role-specific requirements. Do not include card numbers.

Education: Example Secondary School, completed June 2021. Replace this with your own relevant education, or omit education if it does not help your application. Do not copy fictional training into your CV.

  • Vehicle checks
  • Delivery paperwork
  • Route preparation
  • Transport communication

Why this wording is useful for this role

Category C is not interchangeable with C+E. Specify the category actually held and do not claim articulated-vehicle experience from rigid-vehicle work. ADR, HIAB and other specialist training are separate and should not appear unless genuinely held.

The duties avoid invented mileage totals or an unverified accident-free record. Adapt the loading and unloading description to the actual equipment and assistance used. Read the vacancy for vehicle type, routes, nights away and any specialist requirements.

Check before using the example

This is a writing example, not a claim about a real applicant or a promise of interviews. Your CV must reflect your own tasks, dates and qualifications.

  • Confirm licence categories and current validity.
  • Do not automatically select Driver CPC or specialist training.
  • Never include licence or tachograph card numbers.
  • Do not invent a clean driving record or delivery performance figures.
